School Improvement Team

School Improvement Team LogoThe School Improvement Team (SIT) is charged with developing recommendations that address the district’s goal of ensuring high achievement for all students and eliminating the predictability of racial disparities in achievement. This work will be accomplished by fostering communication and partnerships within the ETHS community. Specifically, SIT reviews PSAE and other achievement data in order to identify and assess issues/problems that need to be addressed. SIT helps to develop the School Improvement Plan and the Restructuring Plans required by ISBE. SIT works to ensure that all perspectives are represented, drawing upon members of all racial/ethnic groups and upon the perspectives of students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community leaders. The Office of C and I provides support for the SIT team, but SIT is co-chaired by a faculty member and a parent/community leader.

This charge consisted of steering the work of various design committees committed to recommending changes in the areas of K-12 standards, career pathways, personalization, student planning, technology, teacher evaluation, staff development, and alternative scheduling. The team has seen this original charge through, but is now continuing assessing how we can continue the important work of supporting institutional change to improving achievement for all students.

Our focus has sharpened. We are committed to using data to inform our discussions and decision-making. Also we use the district’s annual goals to guide our work. In an effort to communicate to the ETHS community how it contributes to the comprehensive decision-making process that exists at ETHS, the School Improvement Team has developed this current description of its mission and charge.

Mission of School Improvement Team

The School Improvement Team will recommend, support and evaluate initiatives that address the district’s goal of ensuring high achievement for all students, with an emphasis on minority students. This work will be accomplished by fostering communication and partnerships within the ETHS community.

What do we do? We use data to identify and assess issues/problems that need to be addressed; communicate our findings; and make recommendations for change. We develop the School Improvement Plan yearly and review the status of Plan initiatives and projects. Our initiatives are shaped by the district’s goals, and we provide input into shaping new district goals.

How do we do our work? We study data and information to make informed decisions and recommendations. We maintain communication with all constituencies and incorporate feedback into our deliberations. To the extent appropriate, we utilize a problem-identification and solution process that contains the following steps: Describe the problem and impact of the problem Analyze the problem and its contributing factors Develop a solution and implementation plan Implement the plan and monitor how well it works. Where/to whom do we report? Our recommendations are made to the Superintendent; the superintendent may then forward these recommendations to the appropriate bodies. (Administrative Team/ Curriculum Council, etc.)
