Evanston Township High School (ETHS) District 202 is a four-year (9-12), comprehensive high school occupying a 65-acre campus in Evanston, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago along the Lake Michigan shore. ETHS was established in 1883 and serves the city of Evanston and a small portion of the neighboring village of Skokie for a total district population of approximately 78,000.

The attendance area of the school is home to Northwestern University and Oakton Community College, and has a variety of office developments, technology parks, light industrial and shopping districts. Together, the two communities offer an ethnic, economic, racial, and cultural diversity that is reflected in the student body. Evanston Township High School has 282 certified staff members, a majority of whom have a Master’s degree or beyond. ETHS is fully accredited by the State of Illinois.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams (Class of 2011)

In spring 2011, 681 students (23.6% of the student body) took 1,551 AP exams. This marks the highest percentage of students participating in AP exams at ETHS. Of the students tested, 65% of the grades were 3 or better.

National Merit and National Achievement (Class of 2012)

Of the Class of 2012, eight seniors are Semifinalists and 35 are Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In the National Achievement Scholarship Program, one senior is a Semifinalist and two are Outstanding Students.

ACT Test Results (Class of 2011)

636 students from the Class of 2011 took the ACT. Both the Class of 2010 and 2009 registered the same ACT composite score, which remains the highest ETHS composite since records began in 1972. ETHS students continue to score higher than the state and national average.

Schedules. The regular schedule begins at 8:32am and continues through nine 42-minute periods until 3:35pm. Each student has a daily lunch period. To view a detailed Bell Schedule, click here.

Nutrition Services. The ETHS Nutrition Services Department serves an average of 1,500 lunches and 300 breakfasts every day. A wide variety of freshly made, student-pleasing food is prepared daily in the district-operated facility and served in four grade-specific cafeterias.

  • Breakfast is served to all grades in Beardsley Cafeteria every morning. Grab ‘n Go breakfast items are also available for purchase in the Main Lobby WildKit Window.
  • Lunch is available to students in each of the four cafeterias. Students enjoy lunch with their peers according to grade.
  • Mid-Afternoon Grab ‘n Go snack items are available for purchase in the Main Lobby WildKit Window starting at 3:30 PM.
  • Parents and guardians may sign up to pay for student meals online using the secure SNAP account system.

Closed Campus. ETHS has a closed-campus policy for freshmen and sophomores all day including lunch, and for juniors and seniors except during their lunch periods.

Beyond the Classroom. ETHS offers a broad array of extracurricular student activities including interscholastic sports, fine arts-related performance and exhibition opportunities, curriculum- and cultural-related clubs, student governance, and many more ways for students to get involved in an area of interest beyond the classroom. ETHS also has three voluntary honor societies: National Honor Society for juniors and seniors, and ETHS-based honor societies for sophomores and freshmen. Students compete in contests in math, science, forensics, world languages, writing, and many other subjects. Student publications include the award-winning Evanstonian newspaper, "TheSeeN" magazine, the Paper Clip, and the school yearbook.

Peformance facilities include a 1,500-seat auditorium and two additional theaters, a broadcast TV studio and digital media lab. Student vocal and instrumental music groups, dance and theater companies perform at least one public performance a month.

Athletics. Home to 35 IHSA State Championships and countless Top 10 finishes, the ETHS Athletic program is regarded as one of the best in the state of Illinois. With twelve gyms including historic Beardsley Gym, two swimming pools, a designated gymnastics training center, three weight rooms, a fieldhouse with an indoor track and tennis courts, outdoor track, four baseball and softball diamonds, eleven outdoor tennis courts and eight athletic fields including legendary Memorial Stadium, Evanston's athletic facilities have few rivals.
