What is the difference between the ETHS Health Service and the School Based Health Center?

People often are confused about the difference between the ETHS Health Service and the School Based Health Center. We have compared them below.

ETHS Health Service Room N-100

  • Personnel employed by ETHS
  • AKA the School Nurses’ Office
  • Staffed by Certified School Nurses and a secretary.
  • Will see any and all students with health-related or emotional complaints
  • No appointment necessary
  • Evaluate students who become ill during the school day.
  • Monitor students’ compliance with regulations established by the Illinois Department of Public Health, including a physical exam for all incoming students.
  • Ensure all students are up-to-date with immunization requirements established by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

School Based Health Center Room H-101

Phone: 847-424-7265  Fax: 847-492-5809

  • Personnel employed by Evanston Hospital
  • AKA The Clinic
  • Staffed by nurse practitioners, secretary, a social worker, a public health nurse and rotating physicians
  • Will see only those students who have been registered by parent/guardian
  • By appointment only
  • Provide ongoing care to students with acute or chronic conditions
  • Perform physical exams for new students as well as annual sports physicals for upperclassmen.
  • Administer recommended and required vaccines.
