Substitute Teaching
General Information
Thank you for your interest in serving as a Substitute Teacher at Evanston Township High School. All Substitute Teachers are called on an as needed basis and may be needed for one day, one week or one month. Our need for Substitutes will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week and, as such, we cannot guarantee work each day.
All Substitute Teachers arrive between 7:30 A.M. and 7:45 A.M. Classes begin at 8:35 A.M. and end at 3:35 P.M. The Substitute Teacher rate is $110.00 per day.
Substitutes are required to complete a background check and in-house training prior to substituting at ETHS. Attendance is only for those individuals that have been interviewed and approved as substitute teachers.

Job Description
All Substitute teachers must have teaching capabilities in all areas and able to follow oral and written directions, have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students, and the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
- The ability to follow lesson plans, left by the permanent teacher.
- Teaching capabilities in all subject areas.
- Excellent communications skills.
- The ability to address the various learning styles of students.
- The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience.
- The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs.
- The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
- The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments.
- The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior.
- The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies.
- The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely.
All substitutes are expected to be prompt, reliable, appropriately dressed and groomed and follow all ETHS school policies and guidelines. All new substitute teachers begin with a probation week and an assigned mentor.
