English

English, taught from a humanistic point of view, focuses on composition, language, and literature. All English classes follow a sequential and developmental pattern of skills. Students experience literature through reading, discussion, and written assignments. Both creative and expository writing skills are taught in every class. The four-year English program is a carefully planned sequence of composition, language, grammar and literature. Eight credits in English are required for graduation. Humanities, the combination of English and History, are offered in both freshman and sophomore years with the addition of American Studies in junior year. Senior English includes a variety of choices and options for more in depth study of certain genres, eras, or topics in English.
