Visit The Student Center For More Information on Clubs and Activities!

The Student Center is located in the back of Beardsley Cafeteria and Mrs. MacPherson, our Student Activities Director, can answer all of your questions about our Clubs and Activities as well as give you the contact information for the teacher or sponsor in charge of the club that you are interested in.  The Student Center is also your information hub for all student events such as: Homecoming, Prom, Graduation, Assemblies, Performances, and many more.  There will be a weekly and monthly calendar posted on the east wall containing the most up-to-date information on all club meetings, student government meetings, sporting events, performances, etc.  While the Student Center is only open to juniors and seniors to spend their free-periods and lunch, freshmen and sophomores are welcome to come and get information and then return to their respective cafeterias.

ETHS encourages student involvement in extracurricular activities. Participation can provide enjoyment and teach discipline, leadership, teamwork, respect for rules and healthful living habits. ETHS students may participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. These clubs offer experiences in dance, drama, music, world languages and cultures, cheerleading and related spirit activities, business and office occupations, student government, honor societies, math and other academic subjects, among many other activities.

Starting an Organization or Club

If the activity you are interested in does not exist, you can start it with help the Student Activities Director and the AP for Educational Services, anytime during the school year. Your group must secure a sponsor, and maintain ETHS standards of citizenship, honesty, impartiality and openness to all students. According to state law, you may not start or join a secret or illegal society.

Student Clubs/Equal Access

ETHS provides equal access and a fair opportunity to all clubs to organize and meet at school. ETHS does not discriminate against any club on the basis of its religious, political, philosophical or other content of speech. Sponsored clubs must have an approved adult as an advisor. The school will not sponsor or be identified with clubs that advocate particular religious, political or philosophical beliefs or ideas, or which are adversarial or subversive in nature. ETHS may assign a monitor for meetings of any non-sponsored group.

Use of the Building After School

ETHS encourages you to take part in supervised activities after school. You should leave the building by 5pm, unless your coach or advisor has scheduled practice or meetings later in the evening. On Saturdays you may take part in supervised activities. You are expected to leave the building once your activity is over. When you stay after school for an activity or on Saturday, keep your personal property with you. Avoid visiting your locker outside of school hours.

Speakers for Clubs

ETHS clubs or organizations may invite a speaker to one of its meetings with prior administrative approval. Permission must be requested at least 10 school days before the speech. Speakers must observe the ETHS rules for student expression. The AP for Educational Services may deny any speaker who is suspected of potentially violating the rules or disrupting school operations. Your club is responsible for the conduct of its speakers. Their misconduct may cause the loss of your club’s privileges. If your club invites speakers on controversial topics, it must maintain balance by giving equal publicity and time to representatives for both sides of the issue.

Fundraising

Fundraising of any sort, including candy and food, must first be approved by the AP for Educational Services, or his designee. Students who do not represent a school sponsored organization may not solicit funds at school. Officially recognized groups may raise money in the building and in the community. Door-to-door solicitation is discouraged and must be specifically approved. Students may not raise money or solicit funds without this prior approval. Advisors, coaches, sponsors, and teachers can obtain the Request for Fund raising forms from the AP for Educational Services, Student Activities Director, Athletic Director, Fine Arts Chair, Community Service Coordinator, or on the ETHS web site. All students selling items in school must have a Fund raising Approval Card issued by the Associate Principal/Grades 11-12. Students who violate this policy will have their items confiscated. Fundraising should not interfere with classroom or other educational activities.
