ETHS Edible Acre
The Evanston Township H.S. Edible Acre project is a partnership between ETHS and the Talking Farm, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating the community about the importance of locally grown food. The Edible Acre has produced a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs for multiple growing seasons thanks to the support and dedication of Talking Farm coordinators, ETHS staff, students workers and the Evanston community.
The City of Evanston's Summer Youth Employment Program "Green Team" student workers have been weeding, watering and tending to the 24 Edible Acre garden plots along the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue (across from Beardsley wing).
ETHS students and staff enjoy the harvest of beets, salad greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, yellow crook neck squash, parsley, basil and lime basil in cafeteria lunches. Each summer, ETHS student workers sell a variety of Edible Acre produce at the ETHS Fresh Produce Sale at the high school.
