ETHS Celebrates Black History Month

During Black History Month, the ETHS Chapter of the NAACP has planned a month of activities to celebrate the rich history and legacy left to us by our African American ancestors. The theme this year is "Believe, Achieve, and Succeed."

 
Below is a brief description of programs held through February 29, 2012 for ETHS students, staff and community members. 

Wednesday, February 1, 2012
Poetry Slam
4th 6th Lunch Periods (10:58am- 1:14pm)

A celebration of: drums and poetry, rhythm and rhymes. Current ETHS English Teacher and Poet extraordinaire Ms. Toly Walker, Retired ETHS Mathematics Teacher and Published Author Ms. Janet Webb, ETHS Hip Hop Club led by Mr. Charles Carra and ETHS’ own Little Kits from the Day Care Center will lead students on journey through a selection of poems by famous African Americans, some samples of their own phenomenal flow, and students’ own poetry.

Food for the Soul

Adults $12.00; Students $6.00
Students, faculty, and staff come together to buy traditional African American, Caribbean, and African foods. NAACP students work with ETHS’s culinary arts students to cook, transport, and serve hundreds of guests at this popular and celebratory event.

Juvenile Justice Seminars

Professionals from: Evanston Police Department, Circuit Court of Cook County, Juvenile Detention Center, Domestic Violence Program. Educators from ETHS and North Park University will hold seminars on issues that affect the youth in our community.

Health Fair

Health Care Professionals will conduct seminars on health issues that plague our community such as: HIV AIDS, Obesity, substance abuse, and Teen Pregnancy. Visit the display and information tables and enjoy healthy foods.

Visitor Information (Parking/Check-in):
Parking is recommended in the rear parking lot of ETHS (enter off of Church or Lake Streets). Enter through Door #31 and check in with the Safety Department. Please allow a few minutes to check in, as you will need to present your photo ID.
