ETHS Junior Recognized for Exemplary Volunteer Service

Emily Hosman, a junior at Evanston Township High School, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a state-level Certificate of Excellence from The 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Hosman was nominated by ETHS Assistant Superintendent/Principal Oscar Hawthorne who works with her on the Principal’s Student Leadership Committee. "We are delighted that Emily has been recognized for her community service. Like so many students at ETHS, Emily has learned that we better ourselves by doing for others. She is truly doing her part to support the Evanston community," Hawthorne stated.
This school year, Emily Hosman has volunteered with the Washington School PTA and is a Girl Scouts Assistant Leader at Dawes Elementary School. She also volunteers with The Refuge as a musician, media designer, event coordinator, stage manager, and visionary planner among other roles. In the past, Hosman has served as a re-assimilation counselor, music director and facilitator for the non-profit group Former Inmates Striving Together.
Presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people across America for outstanding community service activities. "The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities," said John R. "In recognizing these students and placing a spotlight on their volunteer service activities, we hope to motivate others to consider how they can also contribute to their community."
"Demonstrating civic responsibility through community volunteerism is an important part of life," said NASSP Executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti. "These honorees practice a lesson we hope all young people, as well as adults, will emulate."
