February 9, 2012 03:45 PM
The Evanston Public Library is accepting entries for the 34th Annual Jo-Anne Hirshfield Memorial Poetry Awards competition. Poems will be accepted from adult and high school age Chicago area poets and from elementary and middle school students who attend Evanston elementary and middle schools. The awards are funded by an endowment to the library in memory of Jo-Anne Hirshfield, who found pleasure and delight in poetry.
This year’s Jo-Anne Hirshfield Memorial Poetry Awards will be presented in the Evanston Public Library Community Meeting Room on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00pm. The program will feature poets reading their winning poems and this year's competition judge, Laura Purdie Salas, reading from her works. Laura Purdie Salas is the author of more than 100 books for kids and teens; for more information, visit her website at
www.laurasalas.com.
Competition rules are attached. The deadline for all submissions is March 16, 2012. The Evanston Public Library looks forward to receiving a wonderful selection of poetry and sharing the winning entries with our community.
