Welcome to Evanston Township High School (ETHS), home of the Wildkits! Whether you are arriving from District 65, a private/parochial school, or are new to the Evanston/Skokie area, we welcome you to ETHS. Our goal is to assist incoming freshmen in making a meaningful and enjoyable transition to high school. As you prepare for freshman year, please review the important dates below, or click on the links to the right to learn more about ETHS.

Important Dates for Incoming Freshmen (Class of 2016):


October 2011

Enrollment Packets are mailed out to prospective families

ETHS will mail enrollment packets to the parents/guardians of incoming freshmen students who are attending District 65 and private / parochial schools serving the Evanston school area. These packets include an Enrollment Form, Residency Form, Home Language Survey and a Consent Form to Release Information Form.


November 22, 2011

ENROLLMENT DOCUMENTS DUE. The following documents must be mailed to EVANSTON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, or dropped off at your District 65 Middle School no later than November 22, 2011.

  • ETHS Enrollment Form*
  • Home Language Survey*
  • Consent Form to Release Information Opt Out Form (if applicable)

*These items are required before your student is considered officially enrolled at ETHS.


December 1

EXPLORE® Placement Test for 8th grade students attending D65 schools.

WHEN: Thursday, December 1, 2011
TIME: During the regular school day.
WHERE: Student's current District 65 attendance school.

The EXPLORE test is required as part of the placement process at ETHS. All 8th graders planning to attend ETHS must take this test.


December 3 -or-
December 10

EXPLORE® Placement Test for 8th grade students attending Private/Parochial schools.

WHEN: Saturday, December 3; Saturday, December 10 (make-up)
TIME: 8:00 am
WHERE: ETHS, enter through Door #31 (rear of the school) and check in at Bacon Cafeteria.

The EXPLORE test is required as part of the placement process at ETHS. All 8th graders planning to attend ETHS must take this test.


December 8

Special Education Transition Information Night for Parents of Incoming Freshmen

Parents of incoming freshmen: Do you have questions about the special education transition process, programs and services? Join the Director of Special Education, Dr. Maria P. Smith, and her colleagues as they present information regarding the transition process.

WHEN: Thursday, December 8, 2011
TIME: 6:30 pm
WHERE: ETHS Room N112


January 17- February 3 Summer School Lottery: Art 1 (Pre-Drawing and Painting) and Wellness Education (Health). Mail or drop off the Lottery Registration Form to ETHS as instructed on the form. Lottery Registration Forms must be submitted no later than 3:30 pm on February 3, 2012. Visit the Summer School page for complete details.

January 25 & 26, 2012 Course Selection Nights for Incoming Freshmen
On this night, 8th graders and their parents/guardians who have submitted their enrollment information to ETHS are invited to the high school to learn more about electives, summer school, student activities, and more! Families will meet with counselors to learn about the high school course selection process, and to select the courses they will take during freshman year.

Please locate the appropriate time and date to attend per your student's last name:
(NOTE: Families are welcome to attend a different session if there is a scheduling conflict.)

Online and mail-in Summer School registration begins
TIME for online registration: 8:00 am
Incoming freshmen and transfer students are strongly encouraged to consider enrolling in Summer School as it helps students adjust and transition into ETHS.

May 18 Physical Examination & Immunization Requirements DUE IF YOUR INCOMING FRESHMAN IS ATTENDING SUMMER SCHOOL. Health documents may be mailed in or dropped off to the Nurses's Office (Health Service, room N100) during regular school hours (8:00am-4:30pm). Physical exams and immunizations may be scheduled at the school Health Center, room H101. Please call the Health Center at 847-424-7265 for more information, or to schedule your appointment.

April 28-June 7

Access ETHS for Parents: "Getting to Know ETHS"
These sessions include a tour of the high school.

  • Saturday, April 28, 10:00-11:30pm, Room N112
  • Thursday, May 3, 7:00-8:30pm, Room N112 (Spanish language session)
  • Thursday, May 10, 7:00-8:30pm, Room N112
  • Saturday, May 12, 10:00-11:30pm, Room N112

Access ETHS for Parents: "Getting Involved at ETHS" – During this special session, the ETHS Athletic Director and Student Activities Director will provide information on how to get involved with sports and activities at ETHS. **This session does not include a school tour.**

  • Thursday, June 7, 5:30-6:30pm, Room N112, followed by the ETHS Sports/Activities Fair in Beardsley Gym.

June 7
Future Wildkit Sports/Activity Fair. Attending this fair will give you the chance to talk to ETHS athletic coaches and get information on everything about their sport. This fair will also introduce you to more than 40 of the student activities and clubs available at ETHS.

July 19
Physical Examination & Immunization Requirements DUE FOR ALL INCOMING FRESHMEN. This is the final deadline for any freshman family that has not already turned in the required documents. Health documents may be mailed in or dropped off to the Nurses's Office (Health Service, room N100) during regular school hours (8:00am-4:30pm).

August 2012

Student Fee Payment / Fee Waiver Applications Due

Fee Payments: ETHS Student Fee Statements will be sent out for the 2012-2013 school year over the summer. Student Fee payments may be submitted by mail or in person to the Student Accounts Office (H110) by 5:00 pm on August 22, 2012, or online via the ETHS Web Store (www.eths.k12.il.us/store) by 5:00 pm on August 24, 2012. A $30 late fee will be added to any payment received after these deadlines.

Fee Waivers: Parents/guardians wishing to apply for a fee waiver and/or free or reduced price meals for their ETHS student(s) for the 2012-13 school year must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application Form. This form is sent home to all families of registered students. THE MEAL APPLICATION FORM CAN BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON (Room A146 or E118) OR THROUGH THE MAIL. Applications must be completely filled out and returned to ETHS no later than (Date TBD). If ETHS does not receive your application by this deadline, a $30.00 late fee will be added to your student’s annual fee payments.


 August 27 & 28

Incoming Freshman Orientation Meetings

Incoming ninth-graders and their parents/guardians will begin orientation with an information session in the school auditorium. Following the information session, students/parents/guardians will be dismissed to meet with their assigned counselors to review important information. Students will receive their class schedules and locker assignments at this time.
 
The orientation concludes with an opportunity for freshmen and their parents/guardians to explore the high school and become comfortable with the layout of the building. Students are encouraged to locate their lockers and try their lock combinations, walk their class schedules, and map out important locations (bathrooms, lunchrooms, libraries, etc.). ETHS Student Ambassadors will be on site throughout the building to help freshmen locate lockers and classrooms. Students who have not already taken a student ID photo during Summer School will take their student ID pictures at this time. Please allow extra time for this process.


 September 4

First Day of School

Freshmen start at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of school, and will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m. to attend the annual Freshman Picnic at Lazier Field (the football field). Freshmen will be dismissed from the picnic to go home at 12:30 p.m.
