During a fire, fire drill, or other emergencies, do not hesitate to call the Safety Office at Ext. 7505, if you have any questions, need assistance, or more information. REMEMBER: Activation of strobe lights and alarm horns are indicators of an actual alarm.

Rescues areas for Disabled students/staff in the event of fire, fire drills, or other emergencies.

Rescue rooms have been established in each wing of the building. Each rescue room has a sign on the door identifying the room as such. These rooms have an emergency button that rings in the Safety Office. The Evanston Fire Department has a map of the building, which gives them the location of the Rescue Rooms. To assist the Fire Department in the event that disabled students need to be evacuated, the rescue rooms are all located near stairwells.

During an emergency, the rooms will be left unlocked, staffed by a staff member, and checked by Safety staff. Anyone unable to travel down the stairwells during an emergency should be assisted to the nearest rescue room-this includes persons temporarily on crutches.

The Safety Department is asking that staff familiarize their disabled students with the rescue rooms in their areas and discuss the procedures with them regarding fire drills, alarms, and the zone system. Assisting the disabled must be a priority during emergencies.

Alarm Zone System

The building is divided into seven zones: North, South, East, West, Gym, Tech Arts, and H-Hall. These zones cover all floors in their area. There will be both audio and visual notification when a zone is in alarm status. Only zones, which have an activated strobe light flashing, need to be evacuated! Evacuation should be made to the area outside of the building. All other areas can maintain business as usual. The zone in alarm status must remain evacuated until the fire department has issued an all clear and the alarm horns are silenced.

Fire Drill/Disaster Drill Exit Zones

Each person has a designated place to go. Signs are posted during the drilsl to identify your locations. During a real evacuation, we may not have time to post signs. So, please remember where you need to be. Once at your location, please keep your class together. Please bring your emergency folder and take attendance.

We will be practicing all drill levels (red, white, yellow) throughout the school year. So please be prepared.Teachers: please take your record book out with you for attendance.
