Student Transportation at ETHS
Please note the following student transportaiton options available at Evanston Township High School:
Student Bike Compound. Students may secure bicycles to designated bike racks in the Bike Compound located behind the school. Bicycles should be locked in designated areas with bike racks only. Bikes will be removed if parked on other locations on the ETHS property.
Bicycle Safety and Protection Tips:
- Use a bike light when riding a bicycle at night.
- Wear a helmet at all times when riding a bicycle. Students under age 18 are required to wear bike helmets per City of Evanston ordinance.
- Obey all traffic laws; you must stop at intersections; pedestrians have the right of way.
- Pay attention to your surroundings; warn pedestrians when you are passing them.
- Take extra care when passing parking lot exits or driving through parking lots.
- Give proper hand signals when turning or stopping.
- Before leaving a lane, give a hand signal. Leave the lane only when safe to do so.
- Secure your bicycle with a heavy duty U-lock or chain. When possible, lock at least your front wheel and frame to a bike rack or other stationary object.
- Engrave or permanently mark your bicycle with an identifying number and record that number with the Safety Department or the Police.
Student Bus Permits. Students may ride CTA buses and trains on weekdays for one-half of the normal fare by purchasing a CTA Student Riding Permit. (ETHS student IDs are not accepted by the CTA.) Student Riding Permits are available for purchase for $5.00 in Student Accounts (H110) through the end of September. Students living in the Skokie portion of the district may ride PACE buses for a reduced fee with an ETHS student ID card. Contact Student Accounts for information about transportation reimbursement. CTA buses to ETHS: #93, #206, #205.
To plan your specific route to school, call the CTA at 312-836-7000, or visit goroo.com.
Student Parking Permits. Students parking permits are available for purchase on a first come basis in the Safety Office (H102) beginning in August. Permits are $185 and must be purchased each school year. Students with a valid parking sticker properly displayed on the back window of their vehicle may park in the ETHS lots designated for student parking. Lost/damaged stickers may be replaced for $92.50 along with a written request from your parent/guardian.
Student Parking Guidelines:
- Student parking restrictions are in effect between 8am–4pm whenever school is in session.
- Vehicles parked without a valid parking sticker during this time are subject to a ticket.
- After 4pm and on weekends, students may park vehicles (sticker or not) on school property to attend school-related activities.
- Vehicles may not be left overnight at any time unless approved by Safety.
- Students parking off campus should be aware of parking restrictions posted by the City of Evanston on the adjoining streets.
Students are responsible for securing their vehicles or bikes. The school is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen property brought to school or to a school activity. Report lost or stolen property to the Safety Office immediately.
Complete transportation information is available in The Pilot handbook.
The Safety Department at Evanston Township High School will issue routine Safety Bulletins in an effort to keep the school community informed on safety-related topics. Community Notices will be posted when the school would like to inform the community about incidents that have occurred. Severe Weather Notices will be posted to announce inclement weather conditions that impact school or school-related events, and ETHS Alerts will be posted in the event of an emergency.
