(‘00), and ETHS staff member who celebrated the move at an open house on September 30. The three bedroom, two bath house was built during the 2013-14 school year as part of an interdisciplinary course taught by Matt Kaiser of the Career and Technical Education Department and Maryjoy Heineman of the Mathematics Department.
The Geometry in Construction course provides students with the opportunity to learn the full geometry curriculum through the construction of a single-family home. The course is offered for both regular and honors credit. In addition to the mathematics course work, students gain hands-on experience in home design, floor and wall construction, sheathing, roofing, siding, window installation, painting and trim work.
To date, two houses have been completed by Geometry in Construction students at ETHS, with the 2015-16 class working on a new project. Nearly 60 students are enrolled in this year’s course.
