ETHS students invited to apply for local mentorship program
Evanston WE is a nonprofit organization launched by Hecky Powell and The Forrest E. Powell Foundation. In collaboration with ETHS, Y.O.U., Youth Job Center and other community partners, Evanston WE will deliver programs to help career-ready students with job preparation, certification and placement in fields like automotive technology, cosmetology, culinary, healthcare or manufacturing.
“For years, The Forrest E. Powell Foundation has been honoring Evanston community leaders annually with the Work Ethic Award, providing scholarships to youth pursuing training for the career and technical fields,” said Powell. “This program takes our mission one step further with an inclusive, curriculum and mentorship that really gives students the support they deserve from high school to training to career placement.”
Applications are available online at www.evanstonwe.org and at several key community locations including the YMCA, YWCA and the Youth Job Center (YJC). The YJC Outpost at ETHS in The Hub (W220) also has applications. Community organizations may visit the Evanston WE website for information about how they can get involved and work with viable candidates.
Applications with all completed materials are due Friday, October 14, 2016. For questions or additional details, contact Nancy Baker at 847-477-0025.
