February 8, 2012 09:15 AM
More than 300 student musicians will take the stage when Evanston Township High School presents its Winter Music Festival at 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 28, in the ETHS auditorium.
Two orchestras (String Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra), the ETHS bands, and two vocal groups (Concert Choir and Chorale) will perform. Many selections showcase music from the students’ upcoming performance trip to DisneyWorld, including choral music from the Disney classic film "The Princess and the Frog." In addition, the bands will play a medley of hits from original Disney attractions, as well as pieces from "The Lion King" and from Pixar-animated films.
Orchestral highlights include the ETHS String Orchestra playing an all-English program focusing on "Greensleeves" and "Saint Paul’s Suite," and the Symphony Orchestra playing music from the opera "Merry Mount" by American composer Howard Hanson. Additional choral numbers include Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy," a traditional Zambian song, and others.
Tickets, available at the door, are $3 each for adults, no charge for students and senior citizens. Admission is free to ETHS Boosters members who bring their Boosters pass. The ETHS auditorium is handicapped accessible. Parking is recommended in the lot directly across from the auditorium entrance on Dodge Ave.
