Special Education Transition House
Over $110,000 were raised throughout 2010 by members of the ETHS Educational Foundation Board in support of making renovations to the ETHS Special Education Transition House. ETHS’s objective is to facilitate the independent functioning and self-determination of young adults ages 18-22 with disabilities through skill development, technology use and supportive participation in vocational, social, recreational and other community-based activities.
With the Foundation’s support, ETHS was able to modify existing entrance and washrooms to be ADA compliant, Open up space for instruction and supervision, Renovate the kitchen, Install security cameras, update plumbing and Electrical and furnish and stock the house. Thanks to these improvements, ETHS adult special needs students will learn the necessary skills to live semi-independent lives in a home setting. Classes in time management, financial planning, nutrition, safety, household chores and cooking, self-care and healthy lifestyle skills among others are offered.
