ETHS announces makeup days for school closures
The decision to close school is always a difficult one. Every effort is made to consider the safety of our students and school staff when making such decisions. When closures are necessary, the Illinois School Code requires schools to make up days and hours of instruction. To date, Evanston Township High School has had two (2) school closures due to severe weather conditions for the 2018-19 school year. The following outlines the makeup day plans:
Friday, February 22: ETHS is excited to have its first E-Learning Day on Friday, February 22. An E-Learning Day is an “Electronic Learning” Day that is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education as a day of instruction for students who are not physically present at the school and that is accessible to all students. Students will not report to school, but will work remotely. For more information about E-Learning, visit the ETHS website: https://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/1511. ETHS teachers will share their E-Learning plan with their students prior to February 22, including details such as logging in to Google Classroom, recording attendance, and expectations for the day.
Monday, June 10: ETHS will have its last day of school for grades 9-11 on Monday, June 10. We will follow a shortened bell schedule that day, which will be shared with students and families prior to spring break. There are two adjustments for this change:
- Semester Exams will be held Tuesday, June 4 through Thursday, June 6. Makeup exams will be held Friday, June 7.
- Summer School Session 1 will begin on Tuesday, June 11. Summer School will be in session on Friday, June 14.
Activities, practices, and rehearsals at ETHS will be held as planned on Friday, February 22.
