Illinois State Board of Education Provides Guidance for 2020-21 School Year

 

The following information was distributed to ETHS students, families, and staff on June 24, 2020.


Dear ETHS students, families, and staff:

 

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. On June 23, 2020, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released guidance for schools on the 2020-21 school year. 

 

The 60-page document from ISBE has been much anticipated and will go a long way toward answering critical questions all of us share about what the 2020-21 school year will look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, transportation, wearing face coverings, social distancing, and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also engaging students in the learning process.  

 

Right now, we don’t have all the answers to those questions as this document was released to school districts at the same time it was released to the public. Therefore, we will need time for our staff and fall planning committees to thoroughly review this detailed guidance and implement recommendations into the ETHS transition plan. We are also closely communicating with many other high school districts and with District 65 during this planning process. 

 

ETHS District 202 is keenly aware of the urgent need to communicate to families about what to expect next school year, and we anticipate releasing our own transition plan in July. Stakeholder input is also an important part of our planning efforts and, in our next communication, we will let families know how to share their feedback.

 

At the end of the school year in May, I shared the scenarios that our ETHS leadership team has been exploring: 

  1. Normal In-Person Opening (back-to-normal with no adaptations)
  2. Adapted In-Person Opening (back-to-normal with adaptations, such as temperature checks, masks, social distancing, eye coverings, etc.)
  3. Hybrid Opening (combination of in-person and remote)
  4. Varied In-Person Opening (alternating days, split shifts, etc. with adaptations such as temperature checks, masks, social distancing)
  5. Remote Opening/Virtual e-learning (improved and enhanced ETHS remote learning)

 

The guidance from ISBE will accelerate our conversations, and I am confident our district can put forth a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students while maintaining a dynamic learning environment. 

 

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and flexibility since March as the ETHS community has navigated a situation together that none of us could have imagined.
