Moving Beyond COVID in Our Wildkit Community

February 27, 2022
In recent days, Governor Pritzker announced the lifting of the mask mandate in schools while the City of Evanston and the CDC ended mask requirements in low-transmission communities. These are strong signs that we are moving in the right direction. As we continue to monitor the guidance, ETHS highly recommends wearing masks while indoors, which we announced last week.
We know that today, most students and staff are continuing to wear masks at ETHS and you should feel comfortable and supported in doing so. We look forward to working together during this mask-recommended phase.
  • This transition may be stressful for some of our students and staff. Please honor and respect everyone’s individual decision and accept their masking choice.
  • Masks will continue to be required when entering the Nurses’ Office, the school-based Health Center, and the ETHS Daycare.
  • Some students and staff may choose to wear a mask in certain spaces, but not others. Be sensitive to the various reasons for individual choice.  Our learning environment should be free from bullying, harassment, or judgment, whether a student or staff member chooses to wear a mask or not.
  • ETHS maintains our other COVID mitigation strategies. PPE supplies, including masks, will continue to be available at our entrances and in our classrooms.
  • Visitors and volunteers are encouraged to wear masks while indoors at ETHS.
  • Staff and students should remain at home if they have symptoms or test positive for COVID.
    • People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask, as recommended by the CDC.
    • Students or staff returning after a five-day exclusion due to a positive COVID test must wear a mask for days 6-10.
  • Please note that ETHS does not have a remote learning option as a COVID response measure.
COVID Testing
  • ETHS will transition to COVID testing on Thursdays and Fridays, beginning March 3-4.  Students will be tested every other week through their PE/Wellness classes, ensuring that all students will be tested within a two-week period of time.
  • Testing will be held in G175 during the school day.
  • Students and staff have the option to test weekly beyond their PE/wellness class by dropping in during a.m. support, a free block, the beginning of their lunch block, or after school before 4pm if they choose.
We are confident that our Wildkit community will move forward with compassion and empathy during this transition.
