Illinois 5Essentials Survey Open to ETHS Parents

January 30, 2024

Parents/guardians in Evanston Township High School District 202 and across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)’s Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. This survey was designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of schools in Illinois.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the ISBE. The survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture with actionable reports to help drive school improvement on five indicators or "essentials":

  • Effective Leaders

  • Collaborative Teachers

  • Involved Families

  • Supportive Environments

  • Ambitious Instruction

The 10-minute survey is available online at and can be taken on desktop or mobile devices. Survey responses will be kept completely confidential and responses will not be linked to any individual.

All teachers and students will be asked to respond to this survey. ETHS students will have an opportunity to complete the survey in school at select times during February. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in spring of 2024 and will also be included in the State School Report Card, released by ISBE in the fall of 2025.

Additionally, ETHS District 202 has chosen to provide the optional 5Essentials parent survey. If at least 20 percent of ETHS parents complete this survey, a parent supplement will also be generated. The parent data will not be reported on the State Report Card.
