ETHS E-Learning Program Renewal for 2024-27; Public Hearing Sept. 16, 2024

September 5, 2024

According to Illinois state law [105 ILCS 5/10-20.56], school districts may use “e-learning days” in place of emergency days. An e-learning program is a structured plan that allows students to engage in remote learning instead of in-person instruction. It is designed to keep learning on track during situations where students and staff cannot physically attend school, such as during severe weather, emergencies, or public health crises. E-learning programs also help school districts avoid extending the school year by reducing the need for make-up days.

The district’s e-learning program must be approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The school board must hold a public hearing prior to the initial adoption or renewal of an e-learning program.

In accordance with the state verification process, a public hearing will be held on September 16, 2024, during the regular District 202 Board of Education meeting. School board meetings include an opportunity for public comment, where community members can share input on the e-learning program.

The school board’s approval of the district’s renewal of the e-learning program will be for a term of three years, aligned with the school year calendar.

How an E-Learning Day Works
An e-learning day will be announced through an emergency notification issued by school officials. For details, please see the Emergency and Severe Weather Notifications page on the ETHS website. If an e-learning day is announced:
  • Students will not report to school, but will work remotely from home.
  • Teachers deliver lessons through online tools and platforms, and assign tasks or projects that students can complete at home.
  • Students are required to fill out attendance forms to be marked present for their classes throughout the day.
