ETHS arboreta project to be part of garden show competition
The labeling of ETHS trees and shrubs, such as the one at the base of a Callery Pear tree, was part of a project by the Garden Club of Evanston.
The trees and shrubs on the campus of Evanston Township High School will be highlighted in a competitive exhibition at the Chicago Botanic Garden on June 24-25, 2017. The Garden Club of Evanston is among six Chicago-area garden clubs participating in the 2017 Show of Summer event where Garden Club of America affiliates will be judged.
As part of an eight-year project, the Garden Club of Evanston photographed and labeled trees and woody shrubs on the 62-acre campus of ETHS. As one of only a handful of high school arboreta projects in the nation, the project maximizes use of outdoor learning spaces at ETHS. In addition to plantings, the Garden Club efforts at ETHS include the Courtyard Perennial Garden and Greenhouse Project.
