ETHS Chapter of Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers wins third place at regional competition

The ETHS junior chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPEjr) won third place at the 2016 Chicago Regional Science Bowl competition in February. Team members included ETHS juniors Abelardo Enriquez, Fernando Licea, and Jackalin Mendoza; sophomore Jennifer Lane-Murcia; freshman Elena Morales-Grahl. This year’s team coaches from Northwestern University included Daniel San Gabino and Juan Takase.

 

ETHS SHPEjr team members that also participated in the Science Bowl were: Oscar Coronel Bautista, Victor Mendoza Garcia, Alfredo Gomez, Amanda Martinez, Vanessa Martinez, Daniel Merza, Jose Morales-Martinez, Wendy Navarrete, Ange Loic Ngongang, Lizbeth Rojas, and Valerie Silvano.

 

A series of 116 regional middle school and high school tournaments are held across the country for a chance to compete in the National Science Bowl each year. Students compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer format where they solve technical problems and answer questions on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, Earth and space science, physics and math.
