Class of 2020 and Graduation

  • Honoring the ETHS Class of 2020

ETHS staff worked to make plans for the milestones and celebrations that typically take place at the end of a Wildkit’s senior year. ETHS Class of 2020 students and families should check their email regularly for information. This page will also be updated as more details become available.

Virtual Graduation on Sunday, May 24

Evanston Township High School will celebrate the graduating Class of 2020 during a virtual commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 10:00am. The virtual event is an opportunity to honor our graduates and their accomplishments while also following current guidelines from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings.

Acknowledging that everyone wishes that ETHS students and families could have an in-person ceremony, we remain committed to this milestone event in May as our students have many different plans after graduation. If conditions change in Illinois this June or July and a large in-person event could be held with ETHS graduates at a later date, the district will make plans. We also recognize that any future plans for a traditional, in-person event would have to be based on the guidance from authorities during a worldwide health crisis. At this time, ETHS is working to ensure a year-end celebration that can be held remotely for the Class of 2020 so they do not miss their scheduled graduation day.

Friends, family members, and supporters will be able to watch the virtual graduation ceremony on the ETHS YouTube channel. Names will be read and photos will be shown through personalized slides. The virtual event will also include special messages from the superintendent, principal, board members, and other commencement speakers.

The virtual event begins at 10:00am and is expected to last about two hours. Like a traditional commencement, this event will be live so you won’t have the ability to pause, fast forward or rewind. After the live event, this commencement will be hosted on our YouTube channel for additional viewing.

Students, families, and staff are invited to celebrate, congratulate, and share social posts using #WildkitClass2020. Be sure to follow and tag @ETHSWildkits in your tweets and Instagram posts/stories. ETHS also shared social media filters with Class of 2020 students for their graduation weekend celebration.

ETHS honors and recognizes the Class of 2020 until the end of the school year. The lights at Lazier Field will be turned on Friday nights between 8:20-8:40pm through May 22. As a reminder, please do not come to the field or the school for this activity.

    Commencement materials

ETHS mailed the commencement materials to Class of 2020 households in mid-May. The packet includes cap and gown, commencement program, medals of distinction earned by the students, and several keepsake items.

    Diploma Distribution

Diplomas will be mailed to ETHS graduates at the end of June 2020. Students and families should review information about collecting and returning items and paying student account balances if they have questions about diploma distribution after June.

A group of parents of the Class of 2020 printed banners to acknowledge each ETHS graduate in a special way. The banners were installed on the Lazier Field fence on graduation weekend.

    Senior Survey

The ETHS College & Career Counseling Office emailed ETHS seniors to complete their survey by May 22. The survey can be accessed by students only through their personal login for Naviance. Follow these directions to complete it.

    • Log into Naviance using your ETHS202 username and password.
    • Click “About Me” in the top right corner.
    • Click “My Surveys” then “Surveys Not Started.”

Acknowledging that students may be uncertain of plans for the fall, seniors are encouraged to complete the survey as soon as they are comfortable, within the deadline. This is extremely important for students needing final transcripts to be sent to their university/college. Completing the Senior Graduation Survey is the way the final transcript is submitted to the college of your choice.

    Prom

Based on the guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education, ETHS must cancel the 2020 Prom.

    Yearbooks

The last chance to order a 2020 yearbook is June 15.  Yearbooks may be purchased through the ETHS Web Store. We are working to arrange for yearbook distribution in July. Details will be announced at a later date.

    Collecting and Returning Items

ETHS has shared a plan for grade 12 students to pick up their belongings and return school items by the end of May. The plan is outlined on the ETHS website. Due to the number of challenges faced for this process during the state-mandated closure of schools, only grade 12 students will follow this plan in May. ETHS will share a plan for students in grades 9-11 at a later date.
