Sep 10, 2018  3:20pm CT

The nonprofit organization AMIGOS announced that Evanston Township High School is the recipient of its 2018 Global Citizenship Award. The award recognizes exemplary educational organizations that show a commitment to developing global citizens as well as developing students that strive to make an impact in their communities.

AMIGOS runs authentic, immersive volunteer programs in Latin America. Students live with host families in countries throughout the region and work with their community on a service project. Multiple students from ETHS have successfully completed AMIGOS programs. A strong teacher network at ETHS also encourages this experiential learning.

As a Global Citizenship Award recipient, ETHS plays an important role in empowering students to become community leaders and shaping a new generation of global leaders. The award is given to schools that have met and exceeded the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to service, youth leadership, and global competency
  • Exhibit a commitment to Spanish language acquisition
  • Students that successfully complete the AMIGOS program

For more than 50 years, Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) has worked with schools, educators, and organizations across the US to connect incredible young people to authentic cultural immersion and service programs in Latin America. For more information, visit
