ETHS D202 Superintendent Announces Listening & Learning Series

September 6, 2022  3:15pm CT

Evanston Township High School District 202 is launching a multi-part Listening & Learning Series this fall to establish an effective and collaborative process for communicating with students, families, staff, and community members. The series is part of the transition plan for Dr. Marcus Campbell who moved into his role as superintendent on July 1 after serving in different positions during his past 20 years at ETHS.

The Listening & Learning Series provides many opportunities for stakeholders to understand and engage in the work of the district:

  • Community Advisory Council (CAC): The ETHS CAC group is comprised of 9-10 individuals representing parents, residents, community leaders, and students that will help provide transparency and two-way communication between district leadership and the school community. CAC nomination information will be shared in September. The CAC will meet quarterly on select weekday evenings at ETHS.

  • Community TalkBacks: The ETHS superintendent will be joined by school leaders in conversations to help build and strengthen relationships in the community and together define values, purpose, and goals. Community TalkBacks will be held in different locations in Evanston/Skokie.

  • Talking Circles (staff): The ETHS assistant superintendent and principal, Dr. Taya Kinzie, hosts monthly conversations with staff and will be joined by Dr. Campbell at least quarterly to provide updates and hear feedback. All staff, including Custodial/Maintenance, Engineers, Nutrition Services, Safety, Support Staff, and Teacher’s Council members, are welcome and encouraged to attend. Events are held on campus on school days.

  • Wildkit Walkabouts (students): The ETHS superintendent will provide opportunities for students to discuss issues that are important to them and impact their school experience. Details will be shared with students for events that will be held at different times before school, after school, or during lunch blocks. The superintendent and the principal will also collaborate with the ETHS Student Union to host a feedback forum during the school day in the first semester.

In addition, Dr. Campbell will host a Wildkit Way Podcast, a new platform that will help him stay connected with the school community. The first podcast will be released in September 2022.

“I firmly believe in staying proximate to the people who make up this amazing school community. I am excited to partner with students, families, staff, and community members this year and hear their stories and their perspectives,” said Campbell. “Already this school year, as we have welcomed back our staff and held our Open House for families, there is a feeling of solidarity, support, and enthusiasm around the high school. We will only get stronger from here.”

The events in the Listening & Learning Series will be held at least quarterly on a rotating basis. Dates and details will be posted on the ETHS website. For questions, please contact the ETHS Communications Office (
