Evanston Township High School (ETHS) held its annual Senior Scholarships Night on May 10, acknowledging students in the Class of 2023 who are scholarship recipients through the ETHS Scholarship program. Meg Houseworth and Benjamin Levy, who were nominated by their fellow ETHS seniors, are the 2023 recipients of the Women for Evanston Youth Award and the Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize.

Each year, senior students are encouraged to apply for ETHS Scholarships for which they may qualify. Two of the scholarships – Women for Evanston Youth Outstanding Senior Award and Oliver Baty Cunningham Memorial Prize  – are by nomination only.

Women for Evanston Youth Outstanding Senior Award

This award, formerly the North End Mothers’ Club Award, is presented annually to the senior who identifies as female or gender nonconforming, and who ranks first among the members of their class in all-around qualities, including intellectual ability, sense of responsibility, capacity for leadership, and distinguished service to school and community. Students must have maintained a 3.5 GPA.

ETHS senior Meg Houseworth distinguishes herself with an exceptional academic record and dedication to social justice. She worked for the Restore Justice Foundation, researching juvenile court cases to advise families of incarcerated people about developments in their family member’s case. She interned at the Evanston History Center, helping create high school lessons on Indigenous history. Through student organizations SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism) and Emerge, Houseworth used her voice and actions to support disenfranchised populations in the local community.

Outside of school, he worked in the community as a lifeguard, beach manager, and an aquatic camp counselor.
