The Evanston Township High School Chess team finished the first half of its season with a big win against the defending IHSA State Champion at the Palatine Team Tournament held on December 7, 2019. Six ETHS players won three of their four games: Declan Ahern, Ian Dunbar, Alex Fogel, Meris Goldfarb, Elie Platnick, and Alan Wang.

The ETHS Varsity Chess team has won five other matches against Top 20 teams this fall, with only four losses.

The ETHS Junior Varsity Chess team is also building momentum, collecting first place team trophies in its most recent competitions at Palatine and Hinsdale Central. Danny Fox, Simon Wesenberg, Henry Zaslow, and Luca Zerega each won awards at one of these events.
