Novemer 13, 2020  11:15am CT

The Evanston Township High School (ETHS) Alumni Association is announcing a new, virtual speaker series highlighting the work and perspectives of ETHS alumni, students, and staff. Coming Together: Conversations with ETHS Alumni will take a look at the challenges of the turbulence of 2020 and beyond  as program guests offer perspectives on “Where we go from here.”

“COVID-19, racial awakening, an economic recession, a Presidential election and countless other happenings during 2020 shined a light on long-standing problems facing our community and nation,” said ETHS District 202 Superintendent Eric Witherspoon. “This year has made many people at some point feel dispirited, worried and/or humbled. I believe that the Coming Together series serves as an excellent opportunity for us to collectively continue the healing process.”

The Coming Together events will include interviews of an individual or group of ETHS alumni and will be moderated by an ETHS alum or past and present members of the ETHS Faculty and Staff.  The series will include Evanston alumni’s perspectives on pressing issues and the solutions they are working on. The series will air monthly on line and will be archived onto the ETHS YouTube page.

The first Coming Together events are below:

November 18 - Reparations in Evanston - What is it?  Featuring Ald. Robin Rue Simmons (‘94) interviewed by Adam Newman (‘09).

December 16 - Basketball, 2021 - Where are we going?  A panel discussion featuring Dan Peterson (53), Walter Perrin (68), Cassidy Hubbarth (‘03), Austin Brown (‘03), ETHS Girls Varsity Coach, Brittany Johnson moderated by ETHS Boys Varsity Coach, Mike Ellis.

January 20, 2021 - The Electoral College - Past, Present and Future - Jack Rakove (‘64) interviewed by retired ETHS History Teacher, Arch Bryant.

Please visit the Alumni Association page for more information and for links to the videos.  “It’s tough to strengthen our sense of community when we can’t hold events that bring alumni together, such as reunions, sports games and theater events,” said David Futransky, Executive Director of the ETHS Alumni Association. “We hope that these virtual Coming Together sessions can provide a way for us to come together as one Evanston family to be reminded why ETHS is such a special place.”
