Jose Sanchez-Guerrero, ETHS student

The Evanston Township High School family is deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our student body, Jose Sanchez-Guerrero, who passed away on March 12, 2021.

Many of our students and staff may have a difficult time dealing with the loss of a fellow Wildkit and may experience an array of emotions, including anxiety, sadness and anger, which may be further compounded by additional losses and the pandemic. Families are encouraged to talk about this sad news, support each other, and use our resources as needed.

The ETHS Student Services Department will provide grief counseling in a virtual format on Tuesday, March 16 and will share a link with ETHS students.

Students may also reach out to their social worker if they express distress or desire support around this loss by calling 847-424-7230 or emailing (contact information in this social worker link).

A list of resources is available on the ETHS website, Navigating the Emotional Landscape of COVID-19 (https://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/2592) for students, families and staff, including community resources, as well as hotlines (http://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/799), and the ETHS Virtual Calming Room. Online resources for families also include Addressing Grief by the National Association of School Psychologists.

We also encourage each member of the ETHS community to practice Acknowledge, Care, Tell in caring for our students and each other.

ETHS extends our heartfelt sympathy to Jose’s family and friends, our students, and staff.
