Nine ETHS Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

September 15, 2022  4:15pm CT

Nine seniors from Evanston Township High School have been named Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The ETHS Semifinalists are: Frances Brady, Emmet Ebels Duggan, Caroline Klearman, Jason McDermott, Sofia Shewfelt, Max Smith, Rex Wallin, Jane Watson, and Luca Zerega.

The National Merit Scholarship Company (NMSC) annually recognizes U.S. high school students who demonstrate definitive marks of academic excellence. Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships to be offered next spring.

Approximately 16,000 high school students were named as semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). These students represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. According to NMSC, semifinalists and their schools must submit a detailed scholarship application that demonstrates an outstanding academic record throughout high school and endorsement by a high school official.
