The Evanston Township High School Math Department held its 44th annual Bridge Building and Breaking Contest. The winner of this year’s competition is Emma Chevrollier with a bridge that held 7.0 kilograms. Chevrollier is a student in Maryjoy Heineman’s and Matthew Kaiser’s class.

The ETHS bridge-building contest allows students to apply the math and science lessons from their classes to a hands-on project. Students design and construct small straw bridges that are weighed, tested and scored for efficiency.

Charlie Ward finished second with a bridge that held 3.6 kilograms. Ward is a student in Maryjoy Heineman and Matt Kaiser’s class. Third place went to Lilia Gregg with a bridge that held 3.5 kilograms. Gregg is a student in Maryjoy Heineman & Matt Kaiser’s class.
