The Evanston Township High School (ETHS) Community Service Club (CSC) hosted its annual Empty Bowl event on December 11 to support local organizations addressing food insecurity.

For more than 25 years, students and staff from a variety of departments, including Arts + Innovation Department (ceramics), Human Resources Department, Operations Department, Student Activities Office, and Nutrition Services Department help coordinate the fundraiser to raise awareness and funds to fight local hunger.

Almost 1,000 people attended this year’s Empty Bowl, where students and staff had the opportunity to purchase soup, as well as handmade ceramic bowls during ETHS lunch blocks. Thanks to funding from the ETHS Boosters Club, students created more than 130 pieces for the event.

With help from more than 100 student volunteers, this year’s Empty Bowl event raised more than $6,000 for Connections for the Homeless.

Many local businesses, organizations, and artists supported this year’s Empty Bowl, including Bennison's Bakery, Bagel Art Cafe, Einstein Bros, Hewn, Kneads & Wants, Evadean's, Great Harvest, Evanston Art Center, Midwest Clay Guild, Joanna Kramer Ceramics, Wendy Miller Pottery, Robert Crown Art Classes, Neal Stamell, Sophie Carlisle, Ruth Hecht, and Cheryl Iino-Jue.
