ETHS Chess Team Has Strong Showing at National Tournament

The Evanston Township High School Chess Team made a rewarding trip to the U.S. Chess Federation National K-12 Grade Championships in Maryland in early December.
The championships were held December 6-8, and the ETHS team of Somil Bose, Manu Zerega, Daniel Dligach, Sam Kemeny, Will Zalmezak and Lucia Scrimenti finished in 5th place in the 12th Grade Championship. Zerega (36th), Dligach (39th), and Scrimenti (62nd) also won individual awards in the 12th Grade Individual Championship. Lucas Lazaro Cabiya (69th) and Ryan Cowan (85th) won awards in 11th Grade, and Micah Mostovoy (59th) in the 10th Grade Championship.
With more than 2,700 players in attendance from 45 states, it was the largest K-12 Grade Championships in US Chess history. For more information about the tournament, visit the US Chess Federation website.
