About the ETHS Health Center
-
The ETHS Health Center is a partnership between NorthShore University HealthSystem, Evanston Township High School, and the Evanston Department of Health and Human Services with funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Health Center staff are employees of NorthShore University HealthSystem.
Mission Statement
The Evanston Township High School Health Center is part of the ambulatory health care component of NorthShore University HealthSystem and operates in partnership with the City of Evanston and Evanston Township High School (ETHS). The Health Center strives to provide health services in a caring environment and promotes healthy lifestyle practices to students of ETHS. The Health Center also attempts to reduce barriers students encounter in their efforts to access health care here at the high school and in the larger community. In addition, the Health Center supports the medical and research programs of NorthShore University HealthSystem.
Services Offered
The ETHS Health Center is a school-based facility that provides care to students Monday-Friday during the school year and Monday-Thursday during the summer. Health Center staff (pediatricians and nurse practitioners) provide preventive care such as physical exams, immunizations, wellness/health education, gynecologic care, and reproductive services, as well as diagnosis and treatment of acute illness and injury, diagnosis and management of chronic illness, lab testing and psychological support.
Fees
For students with private health insurance, the Health Center charges a small fee for physicals, immunizations, and lab testing. All other services are free. For students who have Medicaid/All Kids there is no out of pocket expenses. Immunizations are only available to students who qualify for the Federal Vaccines for Children program (includes those with Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services Health Plan, uninsured, and American Indian or Alaskan Native). No student will be turned away because of inability to pay.
Parent Involvement & Student Confidentiality
Parents or legal guardians sign a consent form giving permission for their student to access services at the ETHS Health Center. Students 18 years old and older can consent to all medical services on their own. In accordance with Illinois state laws, there are some instances when minor students may be seen without parent/guardian consent (see Consent by Minors Medical Procedures Act, 410 ILCS 210 Section 4).
