About Special Education
“Embracing its diversity, ETHS is committed to educating all of its students to their maximum potential.” - ETHS District 202 Mission Statement
Special education and related services are supports and services provided to students with disabilities. Certain state and federal laws must be followed to determine if a student is eligible to receive special education services. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) entitles students with disabilities to a free appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs. These services can begin at the age of 3 and continue up to age 22, and are to be provided in the least restrictive environment.

Child Find at ETHS
Child Find is an ongoing process that identifies, locates, and evaluates children who may be eligible for early intervention or may need special education services. This process takes place from birth through age 21 (i.e., through the day before the student’s 22nd birthday). Evanston Township High School District 202 is responsible for actively locating, identifying, and evaluating all children who live within the district boundaries who may qualify to receive special education and/or related services. All school districts must have written procedures for Child Find activities for all school children, including those attending private, charter, and/or religiously affiliated schools.
