Summer School at ETHS

  • Summer School 2021

    The ETHS Summer School Program will offer classes for academic recovery, enrichment, and academic advancement. For Summer School 2021, ALL courses designated for academic recovery and invitation-only courses designated for enrichment will be offered at no cost to students and families. Standard registration fees and course tuition fees will be required for all academic advancement courses.


    Summer School 2021 begins on Thursday, June 3, 2021 and the last day of summer school ends on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Classes will be held on Friday, June 4th AND Friday, June 11th. Summer school will not be in session on Fridays beginning on June 18, 2021. Instructional hours will occur between 8:00am and 1:30pm. There will be variable start and end times to manage student traffic flow entering and exiting the building. 

    Incoming 9th Grade Programming will operate on a slightly different schedule. Please refer to that information below under Course Information.



    Academic Recovery Courses - Registration for these courses will be streamlined through the student's counselor later in mid May. These courses are offered at no cost.

    Enrichment Courses - Registration for this courses will be by invitation only. Directions to register will be provided within those invitations.

    Academic Advancement Courses - The Course Request Process for Summer School will open to students and families on April 15th. Course Request forms should be submitted by April 22nd. Space in Academic Advancement Courses are limited so submitting a course request may not guarantee a seat in a summer school course. Students and families will be notified about summer course assignments on or before April 30th. To confirm registration, registration and tuition fees will then have to be paid.


    Course Information

    Courses will be offered in either an in-person instructional format OR a fully-remote instructional format. There will not be a simultaneous hybrid instruction format where teachers are instructing some students in-person and some students remotely. The instructional format will be clearly designated for each course. Some courses may only be available in an in-person format and some courses may only be available in a fully remote format.

    Changes in health and safety guidelines may result in schedule or format adjustments for in-person courses. The list of currently available courses for Summer School 2021 will be uploaded into the searchable Course Selection Guide on April 14th. The vast majority of courses for credit will operate in a 26-Day Format with 2.5 hours of instruction per day to avoid capacity restrictions related to offering in-person lunch. There will be a couple 13-Day Format course options with 5 hours instruction per day.

    Programming for CURRENT 9th-12th Grade ETHS Students

    Academic Recovery Courses - All core academic courses required for graduation will be available to students who need to repeat and English, Math, History, Science, or PE course due to failure. Most of these classes will be structured in an in-person instructional format. A separate fully-remote format will be available for all of these courses upon request. All academic recovery courses will be offered at no cost to students and will be scheduled in a 26-Day format.

    Enrichment Courses - Eligible students will be invited to participate in reading, math, and ESL enrichment course opportunities. The schedule for these courses will vary.

    Academic Advancement Courses - ETHS will have some course options available for students interested in earning a semester credit in Wellness, Fine Arts, CTE, and Consumer Education. Space will be limited in these courses. Registration and tuition fees will be required once a seat is confirmed. Below you will find some of the tentative offerings with the schedule and instructional format. Additional courses may be added based on staff availability, building capacity, and student interest.

    In-Person 26-Day Courses will include: Wellness, Introduction to Drawing and Painting, Journalism, and Contemporary Adult Life

    In-Person 13-Day Courses will include: American Legal Systems and Innovating Through Design in Our Community

    Remote 13-Day Courses will include: Economics

    Remote 14-Day Courses through the NSERVE Partnership will occur June 14th - July 1 - Careers in Business and Law, Careers in Engineering and Nanotechnology

    Extended School Year (ESY) - Students eligible for extended school year will be contacted regarding specific course offering that will be available over the summer.

    Driver's Education  - Will be available as a summer school program option. The course will operate in a 26-Day format This course has unique registration and fee requirements that will be communicated in mid April.

    Programming for Incoming Freshmen (Class of 2025)

    Prep to ETHS - ALL incoming 9th grade students are invited to take this two week 8-Day course (Mon-Thurs) that will combine academic skill building with transition programming. Students will be able to earn a pass/fail elective credit. This is the ONLY course that will be open for incoming 9th grade student registration. This course will operate in-person on an independent schedule from the rest of our summer school courses to maximize availability of this opportunity. We are in the process of exploring the creation of a fully-remote option for this course. The Prep to ETHS Course Request form is now open through April 22nd. Students interested in taking this course should complete the request form. This form does not confirm registration. Families will be notified on or before April 30th 

    Option 1 - will start on Monday, June 7th and conclude on Thursday, June 17th.

    Option 2 - will start on Monday, June 21st and conclude on Thursday, July 1st.

    Option 3 - will start on Monday July 5th and conclude on Thursday July 15th. 

    The Prep to ETHS Course Request Form is now open through April 22nd. Students interested in taking this course should complete the request form. This form does not confirm registration. Families will be notified on or before April 30th with their student's summer course assignment. Families will then confirm registration after their receive their assignment. 

    Reading and Math in the Social Context - Students will be invited to participate in this enrichment course based on their MAP reading scores. Eligible students will be notified via email.

    Extended School Year (ESY) - Incoming 9th grade students eligible for extended school year will be contacted regarding.
