About Counseling, College and Career Services

  • School counselors are licensed educators who improve student success for all students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. Evanston Township High School has 15 grade level school counselors and 2 school counselors, specializing in college and career services.

The school counselors at Evanston Township High School are advocates who assist students in identifying and achieving academic, career, personal, social and emotional goals. Counselors promote and support the educational process by helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents, while planning for life after high school. Counselors interact not only with students, but also with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies and organizations in order to provide the best educational environment and opportunities for all students.

School Counselors help students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, and plan for post-high school options (higher education, military, work force, etc.)

The primary role of the ETHS  grade level school counselor is to:

    • Advocate for students
    • Monitor and support academic progress by supporting students in developing 4 year academic plans and goals
    • Support student’s social/emotional development through counseling lessons and individual meetings
    • Provide standardized test introduction and score interpretation
    • Assist with college and career (post-high school) planning via counseling lessons and  developing an Individualized Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)

ETHS has two school counselors specializing in college & career services.  This office is an all-in-one resource center dedicated to creating greater access to college and careers by providing a variety of tools and personal, one-on-one, assistance to help students achieve their college and career goals.
